• Call Early in the Show -  The phone lines fill quickly, so call early to boost chances your call will be aired
• Keep Calling - If the call-in line is busy, keep redialing. Eventually you'll get through; chances are best with local programs
• Plan Your Remarks - Plan ahead for what you want to say. Write out your talking points (the call screener will ask your topic and some identifying information).  By pre-thinking your points, you'll be more confident and more prepared.
• Know the Single Point You Want to Make - When you get to the call screener, be prepared to give a quick one-sentence summary of what you will say.  The clearer and to-the-point you are, the more likely the screener will think you'll be great on-air, and schedule you.
• Be Clear and Concise - Another reason to pre-think. If you write your points and logic out, it'll be easier to sound enthusiastic and upbeat when you get on the air.
• Be Ready to Turn Off Your Radio! - Most shows use a time delay system. If you try to listen to yourself on your radio, instead of just talking on the phone as you would in a normal phone call, you'll mess up the call and only confuse yourself.  Listen to the phone, not the radio.
• Get to the Point Quickly! - Radio talk show hosts are driven by the clock and only have short segments.  Get to your point quickly, and don't wander.  If you refer to something that someone else said earlier, summarize it quickly, because some listeners probably didn't hear it.  You may only get 60-seconds of air time.
